ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship 7th – 10th June 2012 De Vere Slaley Hall - Hunting Course Slaley Hall are once again delighted to be hosting the PGA Seniors Championship, under the sponsorship of ISPS (International Sports Promotion Society), whose founder Dr Haruhisa Handa will use the championship to promote their work with PGA Professionals in developing coaching for blind and disabled golfers. The 72-hole ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship is one of the flagship events of the European Senior Tour Order of Merit and will be held on the 7th – 10th June 2012. The event will be the 56th staging of the Championship making it the most long standing Senior Tour event in Europe. The PGA Seniors Championship has an impressive role of honour having been won by the likes of Ryder cup star Sam Torrance, five-time Senior Tour Order of Merit winner Tommy Horton and 25-time winner on the European Senior Tour, Carl Mason. Famous faces such as Sam Torrance, Sandy Lyle, Ian Woosnam, Costanino Rocca and Mark James are expected to line up hoping to lift the championship trophy and win a share of the £250,000 prize fund. 2012 also sees the return of the Nike Interactive Zone where De Vere’s PGA Professionals will be on hand to offer free tuition and custom fitting for all the family. The Hunting course at De Vere Slaley Hall is one of the most renowned championship golf courses in the North of England, regularly featuring in lists of the best courses in the UK. No stranger to top-class championship golf, the Hunting course hosted a European Tour event between 1996-2002, having opened for play in 1989, and saw high profile players such as Colin Montgomerie claim titles over its fairways. The Dave Thomas design is set in the rolling hills of Northumberland and enjoys views across the countryside as it weaves through the pine trees and rhododendrons. The testing par-72 layout measures 7036 yards from the championship tees used for the ISPS HANDA PGA Senior Championship.

Brand ousted his namesake, Gordon Brand Jnr. at the sixth extra hole after the pair has finished tied on 292, +4 for the championship. Players One of the most popular events on the European Senior circuit, the PGA Senior Championship regularly features one of the strongest fields of the year. In 2009 no less than nine ex-Ryder Cup players competed over the Hunting course, including Sam Torrance, Ian Woosnan, Constantino Rocca, Eamonn Darcy and Manuel Pinero among them. It was 3-time Senior European #1, Carl Mason, who lifted the trophy following four rounds though, claiming his third PGA Senior trophy with a stunning 9-under par total.
