Colin - Hatted doorman - The Grand, Brighton

Colin Bourne, our famous Top Hatted Doorman has worked with us here at The Grand for 8 years now, being the first point of contact and welcome to all of our guests. After training at Rada, Colin worked in television, radio and theatre for years and also works as a book illustrator. We’re just glad we’ve got him and very proud to announce that Colin has won a MIA ‘A list’ award for his great service.

‘I greatly enjoy meeting so many people from all different walks of life. Being able to welcome them to the hotel and extend our hospitality, reflects the message of The Grand, which is always an enjoyable customer experience. The hotel is so steeped in history, it’s fantastic to play my part in it.’

At Oulton Hall you’ll remember the warm Yorkshire welcome you receive from our two Iain’s on concierge. You arrive as guests but leave as friends as you’ll see their friendly and welcoming faces throughout your stay not just at the front door. Our very own Iain McCallum has written this poem that sums them up:

Come to Oulton Hall and meet the concierge Iain’s
They’ll welcome you with a smile, Fantastic human beings
They’ll meet you and greet you, take your bags to your room
From that special guest, to the bridge and groom

Willie - Green keeper - Belton Woods, Nr. Grantham

Willie is our pride and joy at Belton Woods. Not only are our greens amongst the best kept in all of Lincolnshire, but Willie is an evergreen presence around the course, waving, cajoling and if you’re lucky, imparting some of his precious wisdom on how to approach the trickiest holes.

“ Belton woods has been part of my life, come rain, hail or shine, for as long as I can remember. Nothing quite beats getting out there on the mower as the sun starts up. Of course the only real way to see of a green is running right, is to have a putt myself.”
